A Brief History.

We were formed in 2001 by experienced paranormal investigator, author and TV presenter David Scanlan and rapidly become one of the UK's leading investigation groups, A title we are proud to still have after 8 years of group investigations.

We have visited and investigated numerous sites over the years including Portchester Castle, Levens Hall, Dudley Castle, Wymering Manor, Beaulieu Abbey, Netley Abbey, Michelham Priory, Ancient Ram Inn, Chingle Hall, and many more, there are some sites that we cannot name due to their ownership being in the hands of the Royal Navy and a member of the British Aristocracy.

The Hampshire Ghost Club has also been featured highlighting our work numerous times in the media including Most Haunted, BBC Radio, Net Talk Radio, Power FM, ITV, Meridian, Portsmouth TV, Paranormal Magazine, Beyond Magazine, plus many others.

We are a friendly and dedicated group of individuals and we are always on the look out for new members to compliment our existing team

So....if your interested in finding out what really happens on a Ghost Hunt why not drop us a line in our forums or via our contact forms enquiring about our membership availability

The former was reputed to be the oldest Inn in the City, dating back to when Alfred was King over Saxon England, originally it was part of Hyde Abbey founded by Alfred, hence its name. General : One of the oddest stories to hit the Hampshire headlines

Posted by Anonymous on 16-Sep-2003 22:34 (3385 reads)

One of the oddest stories to hit the Hampshire headlines between the wars was the tale of the Tall Man of Brook. On the evening of Sunday, May 5, 1924, three people, Betty Bone, her brother Alf, and his friend Ewart Pope, were cycling through the New Forest.
It was still light as they reached the Bramshore golf links just beyond the Bell Inn at Brook, where they passed a strange pedestrian at least seven feet tall.
He was dressed in an antique top hat and a long tailcoat. As he was facing the same direction, none of them noticed his face. A quarter of a mile further on, to their great surprise, they saw the Tall Man in front of them again at the top of Telegraph Hill. As before, they didn't notice him until they were within 20 paces; he just "appeared" as if by magic.
Passing him, they experienced what they later described as "a distinct sensation of the eerie, the uncanny".
At the crossroads of the B3078 with the Fritham to Normansland road, the man again appeared about 20 paces ahead. By now thoroughly unnerved, the trio pedalled past him furiously, intent on getting as far away as possible. He was never seen again.

Personal Stories"THERE'S NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE”. By Terry Swetnam

On Saturday 28th October 1972,1 had paraded for Afternoon Duty (2.p.m.-10 p.m.) at Central Police Station, Portsmouth. After parade I started to walk from the Station towards my beat, which was in the Southsea area. After a little while I was walking along the Terraces - Landport, Hampshire etc. the location of the majority of the solicitors and insurance offices in the Portsmouth area. Who knows what thoughts were going through my mind, at that time? Possibly, what sort of day would it be? I think that Pompey football club were away from home, but the Palmerston Road area would be very busy with shoppers. At this time of the year the sea front would be deserted. However I was soon brought back to reality, when a member of the public stopped me, and asked what was that large cloud of smoke, behind me. Looking round I did indeed see a very large cloud of thick black smoke.

The ghost course held at Wymering Manor on the 13th September 2003 run by The Hampshire Ghost Club was a resounding success.

Not only was everyone very happy with the content discussed we were also successful in obtaining some of the best EVP data in the history of the HGC. The EVP is so very clear that it has been hailed by many members as the best evp data ever heard, they have heard hours of evp footage.

Our cctv system also detected an unusual sparkly cat like object descending the staircase and our table tilting experiments, captured on camcorders, shows some remarkable footage.

Look out for our full report on our investigations page shortly.

Well done to everyone who attended and taught on the course.
