General : Spooky going on's at RAF Museum

Posted by Founder on 22-May-2004 14:26 (3197 reads)

• Story taken from BBC Wales News, 17 May 2004.

A 36-strong team of ghosthunters say they have no doubt a former RAF base in north Wales is haunted after spending Saturday night there.

Members of the Club Zero Ghost Group stayed up around the clock to monitor any spooky goings-on at Maes Artro in Snowdonia, now a heritage museum.

It has become a magnet for paranormal investigators from across the UK.

Owner Malcolm Green believes the ghosts of two RAF men roam the site, a fighter training base during World War II.

Above Maes Artro was a training base for RAF Llanbedr in 1941

Club Zero was formed in Stockport, near Manchester, a year ago.

Member Christopher Cave said they saw unexplained shadows, the "ghost" of a dog and heard voices.

"We were up all night. There is definitely paranormal activity there and we are going to back for a full weekend in September to try and get it all covered.

"We set up infra-red and digital night cameras and digital and analogue sound equipment.

"We will now review all the tapes."

Fellow member Paul Prole said it was the first investigation for some members of the club, drawn from all walks of life.

"We've got a few sceptics on our team and we've got people who totally believe in ghosts," he said.

'Moving chairs'

"It's a serious matter to us because there are so many reports and sightings I don't think you can dismiss it totally

"It's not that glamorous really - we just sit in a building in the dark and wait for something to happen.

"Maes Artro is a former RAF base and the staff there have experienced quite a lot of unexplained things.

"There's a lot of people who died in training crashes there."

Owner Mr Green said he was sure the place was haunted.

"We've been here a number of years and initially it was just things like putting a pencil down and then it would disappear.

"One night someone stayed in the building and was woken by chairs moving yet he was there on his own. He would not go back into the building again.

"Word has spread and we've had ghosthunters from all over."

He believes the ghosts of two airmen are responsible for most of the eerie events.

"It's not frightening - they have a sense of fun and sometimes make a nuisance," he added

General : Demons in the classroom

Posted by Founder on 05-May-2004 18:23 (1708 reads)

School authorities believe the paranormal event was nothing more that the girls' imagination running wild.

Communications officer with the Education Ministry Hilton Braveboy and Public Health Inspectors suggested that mass hysteria was at play.

A bizarre series of events led to one 14- year-old Form Two pupil convulsing and screaming that an evil force had entered her body.

Investigations headed by the school supervisor for the area led them to an incident on a school bus early on last Thursday, in which two girls began acting strangely.

A male pupil who is a Pentecostal, prayed over the girls.

At around 10 a.m. that day, during an English class in Form 3H, another girl began yelling and ran screaming from the class.

Three other girls began trembling and crying.

The Express was told that after classes went on recess for the day, at least two pupils were "exorcised" by a Pentecostal preacher in San Fernando.

Braveboy confirmed the incident, saying "One pupil mentioned something about demons, and told the story to another, and it started circulating and affecting students."

Braveboy said that guidance counsellors and religious instructors "are making every effort to guide the students, sit with them, so that it does not get out of hand. It may very well be mass hysteria, considering the age of the pupils (leading to them) being unable to understand the nature of what they heard and unable to interpret it."

A senior public health inspector said the psychological phenomenon of mass hysteria was well documented and gave recent cases of primary school children complaining of illness "when one or several classmates become ill".

"The symptoms are real but the doctors cannot find anything physically wrong," the official said.

General : Haunted House in Wales to open to public!

Posted by Founder on 29-Apr-2004 21:22 (3126 reads)

Story taken from The BBC Wales Website, 27 April 2004.

A stately home thought to be one of the most haunted houses in Britain has been opened to the public.

Plas Teg in Pontblyddyn, near Mold, Flintshire, is said to be occupied by a number of spirits, including the ghost of the notorious "Hanging Judge Jeffreys".

Members of the Cheshire Paranormal Society have held regular vigils there and claimed several sightings.

Some mediums are even said to have fled the 17th century Jacobean house because they are so unnerved.

The owner of the house has decided to throw it open because it needs restoration work - although what its spooky long-term inhabitants make of the influx of visitors remains to be seen.

Antique dealer and interior designer Cornelia Bayley bought Plas Teg Hall nearly 20 years ago.

The three storey Grade One listed building has been restored but Ms Bayley needs to increase her revenue to complete the refurbishment.

With this in mind, she decided to open her home to the public every Sunday.

If day trippers are lucky - or perhaps unlucky - they might encounter the spirit of one of its former residents who dispensed stern justice more than 300 years ago.

"Hanging Judge Jeffreys" was born not far away, in Acton Park, Wrexham, in 1648. He gained his nickname because of the punishment he handed out at the trials of the supporters of the Duke of Monmouth.

In 1688 when James II fled the country, Jeffreys was placed in the Tower of London for his own safety.

He died there the following year at 44 of kidney disease.

One medium, Carl Fletcher, took part in a vigil at the house and claimed to have encountered several spirits.

He told the BBC Wales website: "I was gazing across this large room stood with my right hand on a settee back, looking at a newly lit wood fire.

"My hand went ice cold, I could 'see' a child, almost as Alice in the famous Wonderland books; blonde curly hair and smock-type dress with deep frills to cuffs and hem."

John Millington, chairman of Cheshire Paranormal Society said there had been a number of sightings in the hall.

"It's very active and it has been for many years," said Mr Millington.

"Paranormal groups have come in here and gone, mediums have come here and ran," he said.

"We've been very successful in what we've been getting."

Another member added: "The chair started to vibrate, it felt like underground railroads underneath."

Over the past 20 years steps have been made to restore the hall to its former glory and the restoration of Plas Teg is continuing.

It is hoped the plucky duo won't scare themselves stiff by spending a night in one of the region's most haunted houses to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance.

General : Yvette Fielding Interview for Metro Newspaper

Posted by Founder on 15-Apr-2004 22:44 (6689 reads)

(13th April) Metro newspaper- an interview with Yvette Fielding for its "60 Seconds" feature.

60 SECONDS EXTRA!: Former Blue Peter and Practical Parenting presenter Yvette Fielding now fronts Living TV's smash-hit spookfest Most Haunted. On the show, Yvette, psychic medium Derek Acorah, and paranormal investigator Phil Wyman spend 24 hours in a haunted house trying to catch ghoulish capers on camera. Yvette and her husband, Karl, produce the show.

60 SECONDS EXTRA!: Are you going to run out of places to research before finding proof of ghosts?
No. The publicised ones that we know of may be running out, but there are tons of other places that no one knows about. A lady came up to me the other day and said: 'You should come to my place.' She's having an absolute nightmare in her home: things go bump in the night, she has water dripping onto her bed. She's had plumbers in and they've taken the roof off and there's no explanation. She's terrified and she's sure it's ghosts. We get more and more people with personal stories ringing us up with new stories to go on. Plus we want to do abroad and America.
60 SECONDS EXTRA!: You should do the place I was born. The Ship Inn, Swinton, South Yorkshire. Haunted to hell it is.

Er, thanks we'll bear that one in mind.
