A sequel to horror phenomenon Paranormal Activity has been given the green light, with Saw VI director Kevin Greutert taking the reins for the second instalment.
Oren Peli's original film is one of the most profitable of all time, having been made for less than $15,000 (£8,994) and grossed over $100 million (£59.9 million) in the US alone.
Starring newcomers Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston, Paranormal Activity tells of a young couple who set up a video camera in their bedroom after growing concern that their house is being haunted.
Peli - who is working on a film set in the supposed Area 51 research facility in New Mexico - is to produce the sequel to his horror hit alongside Jason Blum with Greutert directing and Millennium writer Michael R Perry scripting.
Though Peli will not be directly involved with the second Paranormal Activity film, he said of Greutert and Perry: "These guys get it, and the fans won't be disappointed."
The title - and the storyline - for the film itself are to be kept under wraps but the announcement of a production team follows Paramount Film Group's plans to make between ten and 20 films a year with a budget of less than $100,000 in a bid to mirror Paranormal Activity's amazing success.
